United Women in Faith
History
Eight women in 1869 were bold visionaries for their time. On a dark and stormy night, two women missionaries requested assistance for women in India. That night, the Women's Foreign Missionary Society was formed in Boston Massachusetts. The women subsequently funded two missionaries, Dr. Clara Swain and Isabella Thoburn.
The organization has changed names over the years. In 1972, it became the United Methodist Women. In March 2022, it became known as United Women in Faith. We are open to all women, regardless of their church affiliation.
Our Purpose
We are a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.
Our Unit
Although we are a small unit, we aim to fulfill our purpose by supporting each other. Our missional activities include providing gift cards to Loma Terrace Elementary School so students may purchase their small needs, and supporting the Opportunity Food Bank, the El Paso Fighting Hunger Food Bank, and our local church. We meet monthly beginning from September to June. Please contact us at uwfaithstjm@gmail.com if you are interested in becoming a member.
